Abdominoplasty

Belly

For many women (and men) the abdomen is a problem area. Over the years the abdominal wall becomes slacker because the skin loses its elasticity. In addition, there are factors such as pregnancies, weight gain and weight loss, local fat deposits, etc.

After a very large weight loss, a so-called 'fat apron' can develop: the excess skin and subcutaneous fatty tissue hang like an apron on the lower abdomen.

This can result in:

  • Psychological complaints such as shame and low self-esteem

  • Physical complaints such as back pain and constipation

  • But also practical problems in finding suitable clothing.

However, an abdominal wall correction is not a way to lose weight. On the contrary, if you are overweight, it is important to first reach (and maintain) a normal weight. Only then can you decide to undergo a surgical procedure. There are various options, but your surgeon will discuss with you after a physical examination which type of treatment is most suitable for you.

Mini tummy tuck

If the skin is less elastic and the excess skin (especially under the navel) is not too large, a mini tummy tuck may be the solution, possibly combined with liposuction.

The procedure consists of an incision in the lower abdomen below the bikini line. The abdominal wall is loosened up to the navel and pulled down tightly. The excess skin is removed and everything is neatly sutured. Sometimes a drain is inserted.

The procedure takes approximately 75 minutes and is performed under general anesthesia.

Major tummy tuck

When there is a lot of excess skin and the skin elasticity is poor, a large abdominal wall correction offers the best solution, possibly combined with liposuction.

The abdominal wall is loosened with a large incision from below the bikini line to the rib cage, whereby the navel is also loosened. The skin is pulled tight, the excess skin is removed and the navel is pulled out again through a new hole and carefully sutured. We use drains to drain the excess wound fluid.

The procedure is always performed under full anesthesia and takes approximately 90 to 120 minutes.

In some cases you are entitled to partial reimbursement from your health insurance fund and your hospital insurance.

After the procedure

The wound will be covered with plasters and you will be given an abdominal band that you will have to wear for a month.
This way you support your abdomen and limit swelling.

When you are awake enough to leave the recovery room, you will go to your room in the day clinic or the ward.
Usually you will stay overnight once. The next day you can go home, with a driver.

We will provide you with a letter with tips and instructions to ensure a smooth healing process.

The drains will be removed after a maximum of 3 days, the stitches after a week. You will receive an appointment for this.
